CUK joins TB-free India campaign

Ganderbal, Aug 25: Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir) today participated (online) in the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, a nationwide initiative aimed at strengthening awareness, sensitisation and community participation towards achieving the goal of a TB-Free India.

The programme was organised by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India, in collaboration with the University Grants Commission (UGC) as part of its initiatives for Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs). The programme was conducted across HEIs to sensitize students, faculty members and non-teaching staff about tuberculosis, its prevention, early detection, treatment and the importance of eliminating stigma associated with the disease.
At the CUKashmir, the programme was organised by Dean Students’ Welfare (DSW) and the Health Centre. Dean DSW, Dr. Jehrirul Islam, Medical Officers, Dr. Abid and Dr. Sheeba, Asst Prof. Dr. Harpal Singh, students, faculty members and non-teaching staff from all four campuses of the University participated in the programme at their respective campuses.
The programme provided the participants with an opportunity to enhance their understanding of tuberculosis and the importance of early identification of symptoms, timely diagnosis, completion of treatment, prevention of transmission and community awareness.
The DSW and Health Centre, coordinated and facilitated the participation of the University staff and students in the programme and encouraged them to actively engage with the national campaign for a TB-Free India.
The initiative further highlighted the important role of Higher Educational Institutions in promoting health literacy, preventive healthcare and community engagement. The Health Centre, in coordination with the DSW, will continue to support and undertake awareness and sensitisation activities under the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan in line with the initiatives of the MoHFW and UGC.
