Ganderbal, July 29: Under the banner of Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam (ABSS)-2026, Central University of Kashmir (CUK) celebrated six years of the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020, at the Tulmulla Campus here Wednesday.
Addressing the participants (online), Vice Chancellor, Prof. A. Ravinder Nath, said the NEP-2020 seeks to develop independent learners who possess effective communication skills, digital literacy, experiential learning abilities, and a balanced understanding of the past, present and future.
Deliberating on the transformative vision of NEP-2020 and its role in shaping India's future, Prof. A Ravinder Nath said, “Educational institutions must nurture students as global citizens equipped with knowledge, competence, values and a deep sense of social responsibility.” He stated that students must develop financial literacy, analytical thinking, critical decision-making abilities, social skills and active community engagement, enabling them to respond effectively to the rapidly changing global environment. Prof. A Ravinder Nath reaffirmed that the CUKashmir remains committed to implement the vision of NEP-2020 through multidisciplinary education, research excellence, innovation, digital transformation, skill development, Indian Knowledge Systems and quality enhancement initiatives, thereby contributing meaningfully towards the national aspiration of Viksit Bharat @2047.
Addressing the gathering, Registrar, Dr. Nisar Ahmad Mir, said that students should actively acquaint themselves with the University's academic innovations and achievements by exploring the best practices documented on the official website of the University. He stated that these best practices reflect the University's commitment to excellence, innovation, sustainability and student-centric education, and serve as valuable learning resources for every student. He reiterated that the University continues to align its academic and administrative systems with the aspirations of the NEP through collaborative and progressive institutional initiatives.
Director, Directorate of Internal Quality Assurance (DIQA) and Head, Deptt of Education, Prof. Syed Zahoor Geelani, said the University has always remained responsive to national educational initiatives and policy reforms. Recalling the early stages of the policy, he stated that when the draft NEP was released, the CUKashmir emerged as one of the pioneering institutions in the region to organise extensive deliberations on the draft and submit comprehensive institutional inputs and recommendations to the Government.
Associate Prof. Deptt of Mathematics and Coordinator, NEP-2020, Dr. Haribhau Bhapkar, highlighted the University's sustained efforts towards effective implementation of the policy. He elaborated on the University's "Panchamukhi Sutra", describing it as the guiding philosophy of holistic education comprising academic excellence, empathy, physical well-being, spiritual development and design thinking. He observed that these five pillars collectively prepare students not merely for employment, but for purposeful lives marked by innovation, compassion and responsible citizenship.
Earlier, in his address, Dean Students' Welfare, Dr. Jehirul Islam, underscored the transformative impact of NEP-2020 in reshaping India's higher education landscape. “The policy has redefined education by promoting multidisciplinary learning, flexibility, innovation, inclusivity and holistic student development.”
Youth Welfare Officer, Dr. Firdous Ahmad Sofal, Youth Welfare Officer conducted the programme proceedings and highlighted the constitutional values, ethical responsibilities and democratic ideals embedded in NEP-2020.
