CUKashmir hosts UGC Rajbhasha inspection committee

 Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir) today hosted the Rajbhasha Inspection Committee of the University Grants Commission (UGC), Ministry of Education, for assessing the compliance of varsity with Rajbhasha norms, including the use of Hindi in official correspondence, documentation, and administrative practices.

In his address, Registrar, Dr. Nisar Ahmad Mir, highlighted the University’s sustained efforts in promoting bilingual functioning in administrative and academic domains. “The University has made commendable progress in ensuring the use of Hindi alongside English in official work,” he remarked and appreciated the dedication of the administrative staff, who, according to him, through continuous learning and use of digital tools, have effectively contributed to the translation and implementation process. He said the implementation of the Rajbhasha policy in the University has progressed consistently under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor, Prof. A. Ravinder Nath.

Addressing the participants, Joint Secretary, UGC, Dr. G. S. Chauhan, in his presentation, delivered a thought-provoking lecture on women empowerment, emphasizing the central role of women in shaping society and nation-building. He spoke about the inherent strength and dignity of women, describing them as the foundation of human existence and the source of inspiration across generations. Dr. Chauhan highlighted the contributions of women from ancient to modern times, citing examples from diverse fields such as science, literature, politics, sports, and space exploration. He presented statistical insights into the participation and recognition of women globally, including their representation in Nobel Prize achievements. Referring to India’s rich cultural heritage, he noted that women have always held a position of reverence and have significantly contributed to the country’s intellectual and cultural legacy.

In his speech, Librarian, Dr. Nazir Ahmad Bhat, remarked, “The Committee visit has provided an opportunity to showcase the University’s sustained efforts in integrating Hindi into its administrative and academic processes.”  He urged all the staff members to proactively learn and use it in their official work and extended full support of the library in providing resources and assistance for this purpose.

Providing an overview about the functioning of the Rajbhasha Cell, Hindi Adhikari Dr. Sakina Akhter enumerated the initiatives undertaken by the University to promote the use of Hindi. She said, “Rajbhasha Cell has been actively working to ensure the progressive use of Hindi in official work through regular monitoring, translation support, and awareness programmes. We have adopted innovative approaches, including the use of digital tools, to facilitate bilingual functioning.”

Deputy Registrar, Dr. Javid Ahmad Wani proposed the vote of thanks and urged the administrative staff to take full advantage of digital tools and online resources for translation and documentation processes, for the effective implementation of the Rajbhasha policy.
