September 16, 2026 | BK NEWS SERVICE

Ganderbal, Sep 15: The Department of Information Technology, Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir), observed Engineers’ Day at its Tulmulla Campus on Tuesday, commemorating the birth anniversary of eminent Indian engineer Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya.

Addressing students and faculty, Dean Academic Affairs Prof. Shahid Rasool highlighted the transformative role of engineering in modern life, spanning transportation, communication, healthcare and digital technologies. He said while science generates knowledge, engineering translates that knowledge into practical solutions that improve human life.
Prof. Rasool, however, stressed that Engineers’ Day should also prompt reflection on the challenges arising from technological advancement, including waste, pollution, environmental degradation and climate change.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Karan Nathwani, Associate Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Jammu, urged students to focus on the root causes of problems and develop solutions with direct societal relevance. Citing agriculture as an example, he said Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning could help automate weed detection and enable precision interventions for farmers.
Dr. Nathwani later delivered a technical presentation on Artificial Intelligence.
Earlier, Sr. Assistant Professor Dr. Yashpaul said engineering was not merely about earning a degree but about developing a rigorous problem-solving approach involving understanding, testing and continuously improving solutions.
Er. Zahoor Ahmad Najar proposed the vote of thanks, while Er. Afaq Alam was also present.
