CUKashmir’s Edu Deptt holds lecture on ‘IKS pathway for Viksit Bharat’

: Department of Education, Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir) organized an extension lecture on “Indian Knowledge System (IKS): A Pathway to Viksit Bharat” at Tulmulla Campus.

Speaking on the occasion, guest expert, Prof. Geeta Singh, Director, Centre for Professional Development in Higher Education, University of Delhi, emphasized the critical need to understand and draw inspiration from India's deep-rooted historical and knowledge traditions. She articulated how ancient wisdom in fields such as philosophy, mathematics, astronomy, linguistics, and statecraft provides a unique and sustainable foundation for contemporary progress. Prof. Singh elaborated on integrating these timeless principles with modern advancements to accelerate India's journey towards becoming a ‘Viksit Bharat@2047’.

Prof. Sandhiya Tiwari, Dean, International Affairs and Dean School of Languages, underscored the collective responsibility of all stakeholders in the education ecosystem. In her presidential address, she stressed the importance of actively engaging with, understanding, and disseminating the vast repository of the IKS. She called upon faculty, scholars, and students to become torchbearers of this knowledge, ensuring its relevance and application in solving modern-day challenges.

Earlier, Prof. Syed Zahoor Geelani, Dean, School of Education, highlighted the visionary alignment of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 with the goals of a developed India. Prof. Geelani pointed out that the NEP-2020 has opened new doors by mandating the integration of IKS into the educational curriculum, thereby empowering the youth with a strong sense of cultural identity and intellectual confidence.

Dr. M. Sayid Bhat, Associate Prof. Deptt of Education, laid the groundwork for the discussion by highlighting the potential of the IKS to transform India into a global knowledge superpower. He spoke about the need to research, document, and innovate upon traditional knowledge to claim a leadership position in the 21st-century knowledge economy.

The lecture was attended by faculty members, research scholars, and students.
