Department of Mathematics, School of Physical and Chemical Sciences, Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir), and VIT, Pune, jointly organized a two-day national level online workshop on “Empowering Research Innovations through Mathematical Modelling” from June-9-10, 2025.
The workshop received a huge response with more than 800 registrations from Indian academia. The workshop’s objective was to inculcate the importance of “Mathematical Modelling” for research and innovations among faculty members, researchers, students and the stakeholders concerned.
In his inaugural address, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. A Ravinder Nath, highlighted that the CUKashmir has been implementing NEP-2020 in more pragmatic and innovative ways. “The varsity faculty has been consistently working with the desirable attributes of NEP-2020 as well as Design Thinking, and Pragmatic Thinking to develop the completely winning personality of students that is Academically Excellent, Physically Fit, Intellectually Sharp, Mentally Alert, and Spiritually Elevated”, he said. He highlighted the importance of Mathematics in reducing an abstract inspiration to connections between quantifiable and measurable entities, thereby making it possible to take the shape of a concrete innovation. Further, he added that STEM integration, in educational terms, is a teaching approach that combines the disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics into a single learning experience.
Prof. M Yousuf - Dean, School of Physical and Chemical Sciences, Prof. Rajesh Jalnekar- Director, VIT, Pune, were present during the inaugural programme and shared their thoughts.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. Haribhau R. Bhapkar, Head, Deptt of Mathematics and workshop convener, emphasized on the vision of the Department of Mathematics for achieving the excellence in research, innovations and other activities which supports designing the multidisciplinary and holistic persona of the students. He added that the Department had been organizing workshops on Intellectual Property Rights, Innovation Boot Camps, and Vedic Maths workshop to cultivate holistic and multidisciplinary growth. Further, he explained the “importance of Mathematical Modelling for saving the lives of people during the COVID-19 pandemic, Second World War and such types of disasters.”
Prof. Parikshit Mahalle, Dean-R & D, VIT, Pune talked about the importance of mathematics for quality publications and astonishing innovations. “Mathematics is the language of Science, Technology, and Innovations.” He added that it plays a pivotal role in research across various fields and provides the foundational language and tools for modeling, analyzing, and understanding complex phenomena.
Prof. Nilanjan Dey- Techno International University, Kolkata, Prof. Pranav Pawar-BITS Dubai, Dr. Pawan Kumar-IIIT Dharwad, Dr. Haribhau Bhapkar conducted expert sessions.
The inaugural programme was coordinated by Dr. Hrushikesh Joshi. The convenor hailed the efforts of Prof. Pramod Kanjalkar, Dr. G. M. Sofi and Mr. Nitin Katake for ensuring the success of the programme.
