CUKashmir’s Pro Bono Club organises quiz competition

Ganderbal,  Oct 1 : Pro Bono Club, Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir) organized an Inter-University Legal Quiz Competition at the Moot Court, School of Legal Studies (SLS) here on Monday.

The event was marked by participation from five institutions—Central University of Kashmir, University of Kashmir, Kashmir Law College, Sopora Law College, and Vitasta Law College. The programme was aimed at fostering legal literacy, encouraging awareness about access to justice and inculcating a spirit of social responsibility and service among law students.

Addressing the participants, Registrar, Dr. Nisar Ahmad Mir reminded them about the importance of resolving disputes wisely and avoiding unnecessary litigation. He highlighted the global challenges of justice delivery, commended the Pro Bono Club for its grassroots outreach, and urged students to embrace learning as a lifelong process.

Earlier, in her introductory remarks, Ms. Kinjal Bagdi, Asst Prof. SLS, and event Coordinator of the Pro Bono Club, emphasized the importance of engaging students in co-curricular activities as a vital extension of legal education.

In his welcome speech, Dr. Hilal Ahmad Najar, Sr Asst Prof, SLS, and Chief Coordinator of the Pro Bono Club, contextualized the significance of the Pro Bono Club, its national and international linkages, and its efforts to reach marginalized communities through legal aid and awareness initiatives.

The preliminary quiz rounds were coordinated by Ms. Wani Tamanna (student). After a tie-breaker, three teams advanced to the finals. The Chief Guest, Prof. Shahid Rasool, Dean Academic Affairs, congratulated the participants, shared inspiring anecdotes from his personal journey, and underlined the value of time, democratic learning spaces, and practical student engagement through opportunities such as “Earn While You Learn.”

The winners of the competition were Tamanna Mann, Rahila Fayaz, and Muqtida Hamid from the CUKashmir. The first runner-up position went to University of Kashmir, while Kashmir Law College secured the second runner-up position. Sopora Law College and Vitasta Law College also participated with commendable performances.

The Best Performance University Trophy was awarded to CUKashmir.

Shivam Kumar Sahu, student coordinator of the Pro Bono Club, proposed the vote of thanks.
