CUKashmir’s Science campus celebrates National Science Day

The Departments of Biotechnology, Plant Sciences, Chemistry, and Animal Sciences, (Science Campus) in collaboration with Directorate of Students Welfare, Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir) celebrated National Science Day here Friday.

The theme of the event for this year was, “Empowering Indian Youth for Global Leadership in Science and Innovation for Viksit Bharat”.

Addressing the participants, Director Campus and Dean Faculty of Life Sciences, Prof. Abid Hamid Dar stressed the importance of promoting scientific temper and rational thinking among the students. He emphasized that the dream of Viksit Bharat can only be realized through the collective efforts of all. He deliberated on the global impact of Nobel Prizes in Sciences on the field of medical Sciences. Prof. Abid highlighted how Nobel Prize-winning discoveries have significantly influenced healthcare practices and advancements around the world, leading to improved treatments and diagnoses for the diseases affecting people globally. He thanked Vice Chancellor, Prof. A Ravinder Nath, Dean Academics Affairs, Prof. Shahid Rasool and Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar for their guidance and motivation.

In his speech, Dean Physical and Chemical Sciences, Prof. M Yousuf encouraged students to think differently and embrace innovation to drive India’s development in Science & Technology. He spoke about the need for creative thinking to propel India forward in the scientific realm.

Dr. Dharmendra, Associate Prof. Deptt. of Biotechnology spoke about Research-Industry partnerships, Startups India, Digital India and other programmes to harness the collective potential of Indian Youth.

Dr. Anil Chandra, Assistant Prof. Deptt. of Biotechnology emphasized the importance of inspiring the youth to actively participate in realizing the vision of a Viksit Bharat. He praised the skill, talent and abilities of Indian youth and the ways to nurture this generation of innovators and leaders in shaping the nation’s future.

Dr. Rifat Akbar, Assistant Prof. Deptt. of Chemistry spoke about, ‘Empowering Indian Youth: the key to global leadership’. She emphasized on various initiatives taken by the Government of India to empower youth.

Earlier, in her welcome address, Dr. Shahnaz Perveen, Assistant Prof. Deptt of Plant Sciences gave insights on how Science & Technology should work hand in hand to solve the current societal issues. The programme was attended by faculty members and students of the aforementioned departments.

Dr. Shaiesta Shah, Assistant Prof. Deptt of Plant Sciences proposed the vote of thanks.
