
Anantnag, May 2: As part of the intensified 100-day Nasha Mukt J&K Campaign, Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Dr. Bilal Mohiuddin Bhat, inaugurated the Marhama Premier Cricket League at Marhama today, aiming to channel youth energy towards sports and away from drug abuse.
The event was attended by senior officials including ADC Dr. Muzamil Maqbool, ACR Tariq Ahmad Malik, SDM Bijbehara Tanveer Ahmad, and SDPO Bijbehara Dr. Mudasir Farooqi, along with a large gathering of players, sports enthusiasts, and local youth.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to the anti-drug campaign, urging youth to act as ambassadors of a drug-free society. He administered the Nasha Mukt pledge and emphasized the role of sports in building discipline, teamwork, leadership, and resilience.
He highlighted that a multi-pronged strategy is being implemented under the campaign, with sports and extracurricular activities serving as key tools to engage vulnerable youth and spread awareness about the ill effects of substance abuse. He stressed that addiction harms individuals, families, and society, making collective responsibility essential for success.
The DC also assured improved sports infrastructure, responding positively to local demands, including the development of a borewell at the stadium to support players and facilities.
Youth participants pledged their support to the anti-drug mission and expressed gratitude for the administration’s efforts in promoting sports and constructive engagement. The event concluded with a plantation drive led by the DC around the ground premises.
