DC Labroo urges calm amid fuel rumours

March 27, 2026 | BK News Service

Srinagar, Mar 26 : Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Akshay Labroo on Thursday appealed to the public not to fall prey to rumours or engage in panic buying, assuring that sufficient stocks of fuel and essential commodities are available across the district.

Speaking to reporters, Labroo said there is no shortage of petrol, diesel or essential supplies, and urged residents to remain calm and avoid unnecessary hoarding.
The appeal comes amid reports of increased rush at fuel stations and markets, triggered by unverified information circulating among the public.
“I request people not to be part of rumour mongering and panic buying. Please be assured that there is sufficient stock available,” the Deputy Commissioner said.
He warned that strict action will be taken against individuals or groups attempting to create artificial shortages through hoarding or misinformation.
“If there are elements trying to create an artificial situation by hoarding, action will be taken against them,” he said.
He said the administration is closely monitoring supply chains to ensure uninterrupted availability of fuel and essential commodities.
Labroo further stated that inspection drives will be carried out at petrol pumps to ensure that standard operating procedures (SOPs) are being followed and there is no malpractice.
“We will inspect petrol pumps to ensure compliance with SOPs and proper distribution,” he added.
He reiterated that supply lines remain intact and there is no disruption in the availability of essential goods.
People have been advised to rely only on official communication and avoid spreading unverified information that could lead to unnecessary panic.
The administration said it remains vigilant and committed to maintaining normalcy in supply and distribution across Srinagar.
