DC reviews Srinagar's rain preparedness

July 21, 2026 | BK News Service

Srinagar, July 20: Amid incessant rainfall and an adverse weather forecast, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo, who is also Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), on Monday chaired a high-level meeting to review the district's preparedness and response measures.

The meeting, attended by senior civil, police and disaster management officials along with representatives of key departments, assessed readiness to tackle any weather-related emergency.
Emphasising inter-departmental coordination, the DC directed all line departments to remain on high alert and deploy adequate manpower and machinery at vulnerable locations to minimise damage and ensure a swift response.
He stressed round-the-clock monitoring of flood-prone areas, immediate action in case of embankment breaches, and advance dewatering measures to prevent waterlogging, particularly around hospitals, power installations, government offices, major roads and other low-lying areas.
Labroo also called for seamless coordination among the NDRF, SDRF, Police and district administration, directing agencies to pre-position rescue teams and essential equipment in vulnerable areas, including Fakir Gujri, Hawan and other higher reaches of the district.
He further instructed all departments to maintain close coordination with Revenue authorities and ensure immediate on-ground intervention wherever required to effectively deal with any weather-related emergency.
