Parents urge extension in summer break
The Director School Education Kashmir (DSEK) Dr G N Itoo on Sunday said the department has not yet taken any final decision regarding the extension of the summer vacations.
“A review will be held on Monday to take a final decision regarding extension of summer vacations,” Itoo said.
He said the review meeting would be chaired by the Education Minister and it would decide whether to extend the summer break or not.
The 15-days summer vacation for schools ends tomorrow.
As per the scheduled date, the schools will reopen from July 8 post summer vacations, in case no extension is announced by the School Education Department (SED).
Meanwhile, parents have urged the Education minister to extend the ongoing summer vacation.
Citing the health concerns amid the intense heatwave across the valley, several parents believe reopening educational institutions at this time could put children at risk of many health ailments.
“The weather is unbearable to elders, how can young children bear this intense heatwave. It can trigger heart related illnesses and other ailments ,” said a parent Javed Ahmed.
Another parent Javed Ahmed said most schools in the Valley do not have air conditioning or proper ventilation.
“Sending children back to class in this heat is not safe. The well-being of our children should come first. The break must be extended until the weather improves,” he said.
