DG Assam Rifles pays tribute top brave hearts

August 08, 2026 | BK NEWS SERVICE

Guwahati, Aug 7: Director General of Assam Rifles Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, along with all ranks of the force, on Friday paid tribute to a valiant soldier who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty on August 7, 2000.

Remembering the fallen soldier on the anniversary of his martyrdom, Assam Rifles honoured his courage, dedication and ultimate sacrifice made in the service of the nation.
The tribute reflects the force's enduring tradition of remembering personnel who laid down their lives while performing their duties under challenging circumstances. The Assam Rifles, one of India's oldest paramilitary forces, has a long history of service in the Northeast, combining operational responsibilities with its role in supporting communities across the region.
Lt Gen Lakhera and the ranks of Assam Rifles paid homage to the fallen comrade, reaffirming that the sacrifices of personnel who served before them remain an integral part of the force's institutional memory and ethos.
For serving personnel, such commemorations serve as a reminder of the risks associated with military service and the values of courage, duty and selflessness expected from those entrusted with the nation's security.
The force also reiterated its commitment to honouring the families and memories of its fallen personnel, whose sacrifices continue to inspire generations of soldiers.
The solemn remembrance on August 7 marks another occasion for Assam Rifles to salute those who gave their lives in the line of duty and to reaffirm the force's commitment to carrying forward their legacy of service and sacrifice.
