Budgam, Aug 9: A digital literacy and market-readiness training programme was held in Budgam to equip local artisans with the skills needed to adapt to an increasingly technology-driven marketplace and expand the reach of their traditional crafts.

The initiative focused on strengthening the digital capabilities of artisans and helping them understand how technology can be used to promote, market and sell their products beyond conventional local markets. The programme highlighted the growing importance of digital platforms in creating new avenues for craftsmen, particularly those engaged in handloom and handicrafts.
Deputy Commissioner Budgam IAS Athar Amir Khan emphasised the transformative role of technology in improving market access for local artisans. He stressed that while the craftsmanship and artistic traditions of Kashmir remain a major economic and cultural asset, artisans must increasingly acquire digital skills to connect directly with customers and wider markets.
The training was aimed at bridging this gap by introducing participants to digital tools and market-oriented practices that can help them showcase their products, improve their visibility and explore opportunities beyond geographical boundaries.
