The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Dr Owais Ahmad Wednesday inaugurated the District Pencak Silat Championship for all age groups, including boys and girls at Markundal Bandipora.
The event is being organized by the District Pencak Association Bandipora in collaboration with District Administration Bandipora.
Sports Council, promises to be a thrilling showcase of the ancient Indonesian martial art, Pencak Silat, and brings together talented athletes from across the district.
During the inaugural ceremony, the DC said that Pencak Silat is known for its graceful and dynamic movements, holds deep cultural significance, and has gained immense popularity as a form of self-defense and traditional sport. He said the championship will promote the art of Pencak Silat while providing a platform for local athletes to exhibit their skills and foster sportsmanship among the youth.
The DC further encouraged participants to compete with integrity and uphold the spirit of sportsmanship throughout the championship.

Faisal Ali, on the occasion, informed that during the championship skilled Pencak Silat practitioners will compete across various weight categories and age groups. He said Spectators can expect a riveting display of martial prowess, agility, and mental acuity as these athletes vie for top honors.
He said that the association is committed to continuing its efforts in organizing such events and providing ample opportunities for athletes to showcase their talent on bigger platforms.
