Srinagar, Sep 12: Amid threat letters issued to the migrant Kashmiri Pandit PM Package employees by a terror outfit, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir has sought early completion and handing over of six transit accommodations in the Valley to PM Package employees.
In a communication to Principal Secretary, Department of DMRR&R, the Div Com said that Relief & Rehabilitation Commissioner (M) has intimated that six transit accommodations are at an advance stage of completion.
The six accommodations are Zewan (Srinagar), Kulangambagh (Kupwara), Kakanmaran (Budgam), Lethpora (Pulwama), Machbawan (Anantnag) and Chowgam (Kulgam).
The letter states that a detailed review for deployment of security has been undertaken in coordination with IGP Kashmir and adequate manpower for deployment has been identified and is ready to be deployed as and when possession is handed over to eligible allottees by Relief & Rehabilitation Commissioner (M).
It notes that PM Package employees have been repeatedly approaching the Divisional Commissioner's office seeking early possession of allotted flats in view of the current scenario. “Some employees also staged a protest on 09-09-2026 at Press Club Pratap Park Srinagar highlighting the same issue.”
Accordingly, the Divisional Commissioner has requested that the matter be taken up with the executing agencies for early completion of these transit accommodations and handing over possession to Relief & Rehabilitation Commissioner (M) so that the long pending grievance of the PM Package employees is addressed.
The PM package Pandit employees have threatened to go on hunger strike if the transit accommodation was not provided to them by September 30.
About 6000 PM package Pandit employees are posted in the Valley and some of them have been provided transit accommodation by the government while some others are living on rent basis.
Meanwhile, All PM Package Employees Forum, Kashmir, has urged the Union Home Minister Amit Shah to take immediate steps to address the security concerns among Kashmiri Pandit employees and their families and prevent "another cycle of displacement," saying a sense of uneasiness and tension continues to exist at the grassroots level.
Over the last two months, there have been several purported threatening letters that appeared in social media targeting Kashmiri Pandits employees.
In a letter to union Home Minister Amit Shah, President of All PM Package Employees Forum Sunny Raina said there is "growing sense of fear and uncertainty" prevailing among Kashmiri Hindu employees and their families currently residing and working in the Kashmir Valley.
"For the last 16 years, we have been making a sincere but extremely difficult effort to resettle ourselves in Kashmir and rebuild our lives in our homeland. We returned with hope, courage and faith in the Government of India and made every possible effort to live peacefully, work honestly and become part of the social fabric of the Valley once again. However, since 2021, the targeted killings of civilians and members of the Kashmiri Hindu community have created a deep sense of fear among our families. Every such incident revives the painful memories of the 1990s and raises a genuine concern that Kashmiri Hindus may once again be forced into displacement from their homeland," the letter reads.
The forum said that while the situation may appear normal on the surface, "at the grassroots level, a sense of uneasiness and tension continues to exist", with many families remaining concerned about their safety and the future of their children.
