
Srinagar, July 18: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg on Friday chaired a high-level meeting to review preparations for the forthcoming Independence Day celebrations, directing all departments to ensure seamless coordination for the smooth conduct of the national event.
The meeting was attended by IGP Kashmir V.K. Birdi, Deputy Commissioners of all districts and senior officers from key departments, including SMC, R&B, PDD, Education, Culture, Jal Shakti, Health, Information, Hospitality & Protocol, Traffic Police, Fire & Emergency Services, Doordarshan and SKICC.
Garg reviewed security, logistics, protocol, medical services, venue management, rehearsals and post-event arrangements. He directed the R&B Department to arrange tentage, seating, stage, dais and LED screens, while PDD was asked to ensure uninterrupted power supply with generator backup and illumination of key government buildings.
The Jal Shakti Department was instructed to provide safe drinking water and install RO units, while the Floriculture Department was tasked with floral decorations. Police were directed to facilitate flower-petal showers through drones and ensure foolproof security.
The SMC was asked to maintain sanitation, toilets and dewatering facilities, while the Information Department was directed to install a synchronized public address system and publicity hoardings.
Garg also directed the Culture, Youth Services & Sports Department and J&K Sports Council to organise cultural programmes, while schools, colleges and the Information Department were asked to conduct quiz and singing competitions. Fire & Emergency Services were instructed to remain on standby, and the Hospitality & Protocol Department was asked to make necessary arrangements for guests.
Deputy Commissioners were directed to ensure similar preparations in their respective districts so that Independence Day is celebrated across Kashmir with patriotism, dignity and enthusiasm.
IGP V.K. Birdi stressed strict adherence to flag-hoisting protocols and called for the deployment of nodal officers to ensure smooth and orderly celebrations.
