Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg, on Saturday carried out an extensive tour of key areas in Srinagar to review measures aimed at streamlining traffic movement and easing congestion in the summer capital.
Garg was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Commissioner, Faz Lul Haseeb, SSP Traffic, Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar and officers from all concerned departments.
Officials said the Divisional Commissioner inspected several vital junctions and corridors that witness frequent traffic snarls during peak hours. He took stock of existing bottlenecks, roadside encroachments, on-street parking, and the condition of road infrastructure.
Garg passed directions for coordinated action by traffic police, SMC and the district administration to remove encroachments, regulate street vending in a structured manner and identify dedicated parking spaces to minimise roadside halts.
He stressed on strict enforcement against wrong parking and violations of traffic rules, while also calling for better signage and lane discipline to improve vehicular movement.
The Divisional Commissioner also reviewed the ongoing and proposed works related to junction improvement, widening of critical stretches and development of alternative routes to distribute traffic load more evenly.
Emphasising that decongesting Srinagar is key to improving the overall quality of life in the city, Garg asked officers to prepare a time-bound action plan and ensure close inter-departmental coordination.
He said that public cooperation, alongside institutional measures, was essential for achieving long-term traffic discipline in Srinagar and urged citizens to follow road safety norms and parking regulations.
The inspection, officials said, is part of a broader initiative of the administration to make vehicular movement smoother and safer in Srinagar, particularly in view of increasing traffic volume and ongoing urban expansion.
