In a bid to promote legal literacy and empower youth with knowledge of their rights and responsibilities, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar today organized a comprehensive legal awareness programme at Government Boys Higher Secondary School (GBHSS), Zainakote.

The event, aimed at sensitizing students to key social and legal issues, focused on the legal provisions for persons with intellectual disabilities, solid waste management, and awareness of the NALSA legal aid helpline 15100.
The programme was held under the chairmanship of Tasleem Arief, Principal District & Sessions Judge Srinagar, and conducted under the guidance of Sajad Ur Rehman, Sub-Judge and Secretary, DLSA Srinagar.
Advocate Gazala Mumtaz Khan, Panel Lawyer with DLSA Srinagar, delivered an informative session on the legal rights of persons with intellectual disabilities. She stressed the importance of dignity, inclusion, and legal protections for differently-abled individuals, urging students to cultivate empathy and social responsibility.
Advocate Suhaila Ali, also a Panel Lawyer, addressed the students on solid waste management, highlighting its environmental and public health implications. She also explained the utility of the NALSA Helpline 15100, which offers free legal aid and guidance to the public, thereby enhancing access to justice.
The event concluded with an interactive session, during which students asked questions and shared their perspectives, reflecting a strong interest in legal and environmental issues.
