
Anantnag, May 2: In a continued crackdown on drug trafficking and illegally acquired assets, police in Anantnag demolished a commercial complex comprising 15 shops at Waghama, Bijbehara, officials said on Saturday.
The structure, valued at around ₹1 crore, was found to have been illegally constructed on state land and belonged to a drug peddler identified as Sajad Ahmad Rather, son of Mohammad Abdullah Rather of Waghama Bijbehara. He is involved in FIR No. 63/2017 under the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Yaripora.
Officials said the demolition was carried out following due legal process in coordination with civil authorities as part of efforts to dismantle the financial networks of drug syndicates operating in the district.
Police reiterated their zero-tolerance policy against narcotics, stating that action will be taken not only against offenders but also against assets generated through illegal activities or land encroachments linked to criminal networks.
