Kulgam, April 25: Continuing its enforcement drive under the 100-day Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, the Drug Control Authority Kulgam conducted extensive raids and inspections across the district to curb misuse of scheduled drugs.
The inspections were carried out in Kulgam town, Pahloo, Devsar, and several far-flung areas including D.K. Marg, Qazigund, Frisal, Kadder, Behibagh, and Tengjan.
During the drive, 11 licences were suspended, while several establishments were issued show-cause notices and some were sealed for violations under the Drugs & Cosmetics Act, 1940.
The operation was conducted in coordination with police stations including Behibagh, Kulgam, Qaimoh, Qazigund, and Devsar to ensure strict monitoring and prevent illegal sale and misuse of scheduled drugs.
Alongside enforcement action, awareness programmes were also held, sensitising chemists on maintaining proper records and ensuring that scheduled medicines are dispensed only against prescriptions of registered medical practitioners.
In a related development, the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Kulgam imposed a fine of ₹20,000 in April 2026 in a case filed by the Drug Control Authority for non-maintenance of mandatory sale records, reinforcing strict compliance among chemists.
Authorities said the drive aims to strengthen regulatory oversight and send a strong message against violations in the pharmaceutical trade.
