Srinagar, Oct 23: Dry weather is likely to prevail across Kashmir till the end of October, with only brief spells of rain possible in some areas, the Meteorological Department said on Friday.
MeT Director Kashmir Mukhtar Ahmad said light rain could occur in parts of north and central Kashmir and some areas of south Kashmir on Friday. Similar conditions may develop in higher reaches of the Valley around Saturday afternoon.
However, no significant weather activity is expected during the remainder of October, with conditions likely to remain generally dry, he said.
Mukhtar said minimum temperatures had started declining, bringing increased chill during mornings and evenings. Temperatures are expected to fall gradually over the coming days, although daytime readings are currently one to two degrees above normal and may continue along a similar trend.
“There are no chances of an immediate spell of cold. Temperatures will fall gradually, little by little,” he said, adding that winter was setting in progressively.
Advising farmers, the MeT director said harvesting activities could continue under the prevailing weather conditions. Travellers were also advised to check traffic advisories issued by the Traffic Department before embarking on their journeys.
