
Sets July 2025 deadline
Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary conducted an extensive tour of Udhampur today to inspect the ongoing construction work of the Government Medical College (GMC) Udhampur at Bailey, being executed by the Public Works Department (PWD).
He was accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Prem Singh, along with senior officials from line departments and executing agencies.
During the site visit, the Executive Engineer, PWD Udhampur briefed the Deputy CM on the current status and progress of the construction. Taking note of the work underway, Choudhary issued directives to expedite the pace of the project to ensure its timely completion within the stipulated deadline of July 2025.
To achieve this, he instructed the executing agencies to:
Deploy additional manpower,
Introduce double-shift work schedules, and
Enhance site efficiency while maintaining high standards of quality.
He emphasized that timely execution must not come at the cost of construction quality. The Deputy CM directed the Executive Engineer to conduct regular progress reviews and joint inspections to monitor smooth execution on the ground. He also stressed the need for rigorous quality checks on construction materials such as sand and bricks.
Moreover, he directed strict adherence to labour laws and safety protocols to safeguard on-site workers.
During his inspection, Choudhary reviewed all project components and called for immediate resolution of any bottlenecks hindering progress. He urged all executing agencies to mobilize resources efficiently and work in close coordination with construction teams to meet project goals with commitment and synergy.
Earlier in the day, the Deputy Chief Minister visited the Baglamukhi Temple in Udhampur, where he paid obeisance and prayed for the peace and prosperity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
