Jammu, Jan 19: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Chowdary on Monday strongly opposed calls for a separate Jammu state, asserting that patriots would never support such a demand.
Speaking to reporters, Chowdary alleged that proponents of a separate state are acting as agents of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), furthering a divisive agenda in Jammu and Kashmir.
He emphasized that Jammu and Kashmir, including Ladakh, has historically faced attempts to divide it, particularly through Pakistan-sponsored militancy over the past three decades.
Referring to the region’s legacy, Chowdary highlighted the contributions of Maharaja Gulab Singh, Maharaja Hari Singh, and Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, stressing that the unity and integrity of the region cannot be compromised.
He reaffirmed the stance of the National Conference, saying, “We are Indians and we will remain Indians till our last breath.”
