Education and Morality

Schools also have a tremendous role to play in the moral and cultural development of children by stressing on importance of school and college years of a student which determine his future life

As it is said that education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. Our boys and girls enrolled in schools and colleges to get education so that they have a bright and stable future have to go through hard path in order to be successful and really be the ones who can change the world. They have to focus on their studies and goals with visionary zeal and save themselves from distractions having potential to disturb and deteriorate their performance. Our children have to save themselves from technology related addictions like smartphone addiction, online gambling, porn addiction etc. while at the same time they have to maintain a distance from morally unacceptable actions like developing relationship with opposite genders, getting involved in evil actions like smoking, drinking etc. Parents have to accompany their children in this difficult path to be traversed by their children to ensure their smooth future . Teachers too have a role to play here by acting as guardians and defenders of the character of students from evils and harmful trends developing in society.

One of the worst growing issues of our society is the development of relationships among young boys and girls. While the issue of development of relationships among opposite genders has been present in all societies in various degrees, the pace has grown globally over few decades due to emergence of mass media and social media. While mass media like television gave people easy accessibility of movies and serials which often depict hero and heroine as college students who want to have a relationship, at the same time social media facilitated the ease of connecting people transcending place, age, gender etc. leading to a relationship trend in society. Getting exposure to such romantic movies, school going boys and girls who are teens often want to copy the roles of hero and heroine respectively in their real life paving the way for easy development of relationship which is considered a morally unacceptable action in our society and religion .
After developing relationship a boy and a girl spent a lot of their time in parks and gardens displaying their willingness to remain bonded to each other till marriage. Simultaneously they lose interest in their studies and show poor academic performance in annual examinations as well as entrances for professional courses. Though there may be some exceptions most of the children who keep relationships at young age show weak academic performance. Moreover such children also get distanced from the religious and moral obligations like offering prayers, reciting and understanding holy Quran, taking care of parents etc. They waste their time, energy, money and even honor for the mere satisfaction of having a friend from an opposite gender. This is full evidence of lack of intellectual and religious strength in our society that our own children get deviated from the right path at the earliest and we are seeing as helpless spectators. Instead of combating this moral epidemic which is spreading in our society like a forest fire we either are taking it for granted or want to keep children of our families away from such evils assuming it will not affect them if our children are good. This is not a good strategy to counter this. By trying to keep your children away from such moral evils like relationships you are not keeping the moral disease of relationship away from them.
It is not by distancing from the evil but by combating and destroying the evil that you can save yourselves and your children as stressed also in the famous English quote “Nip the evil in the bud”. Let’s delve into the strategy how to guide our children so that they do not get involved in such disturbing moral traps often caused due to weak intellectual and religious level of man exploited very well by Satan i.e. Iblis who wants to astray men as mentioned in our Holy Book and traditions of Prophet Muhammad SAW. First of all it is the duty of parents to raise moral values in their children by stressing on the importance of religion in the life of a Muslim.
This can be further strengthened by telling them to read and understand the Holy Quran and offer prayers five times a day. Children while pursuing their academic courses which need enough hard work and time often leading to feelings of loneliness and weakness must be loved and befriended by their parents so that they do not feel helpless and isolated. Parents also have to understand that if their children do not get married at a suitable age then there are chances that they will get deviated from the right path . Both father and mother should not forget that once they were also young who wanted to marry same as their children are wanting it today. Though the author does not want to say it but has no option other than to say it that “The parents of today’s youth were married at a suitable age and in a time when there were strong moral values so they not faced difficulties in being young, but very sadly the author himself a young boy has to write the second part of this story also that today’s youth in a time when moral values are weak have instead of asking their parents to marry them involved themselves in relationships which further delays their marriage instead of speeding it up”.
Moreover schools also have a tremendous role to play in the moral and cultural development of children by stressing on importance of school and college years of a student which determine his future life. There should be strong stress on discipline, morality and character of students in schools which will further assess in getting rid of this moral illness of relationship. Children also have to understand themselves that love life of a person not begins the day when they propose to an opposite gender in a park or school playground but love truly begins the day when they get bonded to their lifetime spouse through a proper legal and religious code called Nikkah . Let’s move together towards the betterment of ourselves and our society through education, reason, religion, technology, science etc. which are the ultimate solutions to all our problems small or big.
