Srinagar, May 24: With Eid-ul-Azha approaching, markets across the city witnessed a heavy rush of shoppers on Sunday as people thronged commercial areas to complete their festive purchases.
A large number of residents were seen visiting markets from early morning, leading to congested roads and busy shopping hubs. Meat shops, clothing stores, footwear outlets and livestock-related stalls remained the main attractions as families prepared for the upcoming festival.
Shopkeepers reported a noticeable increase in customer turnout compared to regular weekends, saying that demand for Eid essentials such as new clothes, shoes, accessories and sacrificial arrangements has picked up sharply over the past few days.
Many shoppers said they had come out early to avoid last-minute rush, but continued crowds kept markets bustling throughout the day. Traffic movement remained slow in several areas due to continuous footfall and parked vehicles.
Authorities also witnessed increased activity in and around major marketplaces as Eid preparations gained momentum. Vendors expressed hope that business would further improve in the coming days leading up to Eid-ul-Azha.
The festive spirit was visible across markets, with families shopping together and preparing for one of the most significant religious occasions of the year.
