Embracing Life's Unpredictability

April 26, 2026 | Eyram Hamid Khan

People move on and time flies. But people do not always move with it. Some remain exactly where they are. Some stay to support you, while others stay to undermine you. I have encountered both throughout my life, and as Lemmy Kilmister once noted, distinguishing between them is often difficult. I firmly believe your company speaks for you. The people you share your table with shape your views and personality.

History reminds us that no one is immune to downfall. Napoleon Bonaparte went from emperor of Europe to exile on the remote island of St. Helena. Leaders stumble and empires fall. That is life.
My point is this: do not let difficult circumstances break you. Adversity is a privilege. Do not take it for granted. And never take people for granted, especially those who stand by you in hard times and celebrate with you at your peak. Such people are rare.
Regardless of race, creed, or caste, we all seek the same things: peace, comfort, and truth. Justice often proves elusive. Life has taught me that joy lives in small things — a well-brewed cup of tea, a simple meal made by your mother. We all crave a home filled with care, love, and respect. It is our duty as humans to treat others with kindness, even when some have it easier than others.
When you have a strong sense of belonging, distance matters less. Happiness comes from within, not from possessions. Travel widely. Collect memories. But do not mistake recklessness for happiness.
People say hospitals are depressing. They have not felt the heavy silence of airports, where walls have heard more prayers than ICUs and whispers are louder than cries. Life’s beauty lies in its unpredictability. Living out of a suitcase teaches you that life is a journey, not a destination. Many disagree. They think constant movement is wrong. But I fear stagnation most — because staying still means staying stuck forever.
Stagnant water breeds disease. A life without motion loses its purpose. If there is no growth, what is the point? Look at the sky. It tells the same story. It changes colour every day. Birds sound their loudest. It keeps moving, changing, advancing. Some days it shines. Other days it weeps.
But do not worry, my friend. The world was made for you, not the other way around. The same force that painted the sky also made you, and in all its majesty, it still serves you. People call that force by different names, but most agree: humanity is the real religion. Truth is a virtue. Hatred is corrosive. If your beliefs make you hostile, you are doing it wrong.
We all bleed the same and want the same thing: kindness. Leaves will fall, colours will shift, hearts will grow heavy. That is inevitable. So step back, start over, try something different, and love without conditions. But practise what you preach.
This is not a naive message that kindness always wins. I have met honest, kind people who never achieve worldly success. The wealthiest often lie, hate, and trample others. So be an anomaly: show love and honesty to everyone, and trust that nature comes full circle. Be kind, but never forget to defend your rights.
