Engineers protest non-implementation of regularization orders

January 09, 2025 | BK News Service

Engineers of the Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Department (JKPDD), under the banner of JKEEGA, staged protest simultaneously in Srinagar and Jammu against the government's failure to implement the 2019 State Administrative Council decision, which mandated the regularization of all JKPDD engineers with a one-time exemption from referral to the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission.
The protest followed the expiration of a notice period issued to the government on December 4, 2024, urging action on this matter. Hundreds of engineers, from Junior Engineers to Chief Engineers, participated in the demonstration at Bemina, Srinagar, and Gladini, Jammu, demanding the fulfillment of their longstanding demand for regularization.
The protesting engineers raised slogans against the government's indifference and criticized the persistent delay in implementing the SAC order.
They expressed concern over the systematic neglect of JKPDD by successive governments, despite notable achievements in the department. These include improved collection efficiency, reduced losses, and service delivery on par with major metropolitan cities.
