Faith Through Character

August 08, 2026 | Mudassir Rashid Sofi

Noble character is part and pacel of Muslims faith while perfection of character was one of the Prophet Muhammad(saw). Allah the Almighty says in the Holy Quran that refers literally to the status of Prophet Muhammad (saw) as a role model to follow. "Verily in the messenger of Allah you look unto Allah and the Last Day, and remembers Allah much. Ask any Muslim about his or her love for Prophet Muhammad (saw) and he or she will readily answer, " Fidaak Ya Rasool Allah". Sincerely yours, we believe what we tell ourselves that you are dearer to us than any worldly wealth. Having love for Prophet (saw) means obeying him for obeying him of Allah, to abstain from what he forbade, to respect and adopt the exemplary lifestyle. The point of today's reminder is that our lives as Muslims should reflect the character of Prophet Muhammad (saw) in all our dealings and manners. The love we claim should be a motivational force that we follow his steps. He has left us an example set to reflect his character to the world by his followers, yet this love has not brought about the desired changes in our behaviours and mannerism.

Allah asks the Prophet saw, to remind His nation, "Say to them: if you Love Allah, follow me, and Allah will love you:" Verily in the messenger of Allah you have a good example for him who looks unto Allah and the Last Day, and remembers Allah much. The Seerah, the lifestyle of Prophet Muhammad (saw) is full of numerous lessons dominated by the Prophet's mortality (Ikhlaqait) in all aspects and dealings all of which are characteristics and methods that guide us to the straight path that will ultimately lead us into Heaven. Human beings are social creatures, deeply entangled in countless relationships throughout life. We are all faced with challenges constantly in every area of our lives the Prophet's noble character, mannerism and actions are also recorded in the Hadith books full of wisdom that life demands from you to get through even the most difficult challenges. An insight into this great man's lifestyle of coexistence, understanding, tolerance and cooperation. To follow him, the disciples simply had to leave their boats and nets and the myth of being busy: making time off for studying Seerah. Setting priorities is very important to live with obedience, good and righteous life before the Lord of universe, but it doesn't always have to be difficult. When you take the time to set your priorities, a path in quest of true knowledge, Allah will make the path of Jannah easy to him/her. Alas! I've experienced the reluctance of being busy too often when we're not nearly as busy as we pretend to be more often. Why are we so busy؟ Any threat to my productivity was a threat to my sense of hope. We had processes to streamline, goals to accomplish but sadly duties that we have towards our Prophet Muhammed (saw) are becoming priority next.
Islam, just like any other religion, promotes and propagates peace, tolerance coexistence.
Let us introspect why is there such a massive difference between what Prophet saw, taught us and what is being reflected of us in society؟ The answer lies in the lack of morals which is the biggest challenge of the modern-day world"...
