Four tractors seized for Illegal Mining in Shopian

Shopian, Mar 4 : Continuing its drive against illegal mining, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday seized four tractors allegedly involved in the unauthorized extraction and transportation of minerals in Berthipora and Takwan areas of south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

Officials said a police party from Police Post Berthipora intercepted two tractors during routine patrolling that were engaged in illegal mining without the required permissions. In this connection, FIR No. 09/2026 under relevant provisions of law has been registered at Police Station Keller and investigation has been initiated.
In a separate action, police from Police Station Keller seized two more tractors found transporting minerals illegally. Accordingly, another case, FIR No. 10/2026, has been registered at the same police station and further investigation is underway.
Police said the crackdown on illegal mining will continue to safeguard natural resources and prevent unlawful extraction activities in the district. The public has been urged to cooperate with authorities by reporting such activities, assuring that the identity of informants will be kept confidential.
