Fresh snow in upper reaches, rains lash plains

Srinagar, March 31: The rainfall lashed most parts of Kashmir while upper reaches received fresh snowfall during the past 24 hours, Meteorological Department said on Tuesday.

According to MeT, light snowfall was also reported in the upper reaches of the Valley due to which Srinagar Leh highway was closed for traffic.
According to MeT data, Baramulla recorded the highest rainfall in Kashmir with 73.0 mm precipitation, followed by Poonch with 68.5 mm and Rajouri with 52.0 mm during the last 24 hours.
In the Kashmir division, Srinagar recorded 31.6 mm of rainfall, while other stations also received moderate precipitation, including Qazigund 48.6 mm, Pahalgam 36.8 mm, Kupwara 40.8 mm and Kokernag 35.5 mm.
The minimum night temperatures remained 0–1°C above normal at many places in the Kashmir division, while in the Jammu division the minimum temperatures stayed 1–3°C below normal at many places.
The lowest minimum temperature in the Kashmir division was recorded at Gulmarg at minus 0.7°C, while in the Jammu division the lowest minimum temperature was recorded at Bhaderwah at 8.2°C.
MeT said erratic weather conditions are expected to continue across Jammu and Kashmir till April 10, with intermittent spells of rain and snow forecast over the next several days.
According to the forecast, from March 31 to April 2, brief spells of light rain or snow may occur at a few places towards late afternoon, while April 3–4 is expected to remain generally cloudy with light rain or snow at scattered to many places accompanied by thunder and gusty winds.
From April 5-7, weather is likely to remain partly cloudy with light rain at isolated places, while fresh spells of light to moderate rain or snow in higher reaches are expected at many places between April 8 and 10.
The department has also issued an advisory warning of thunder and gusty winds at a few places during late afternoon hours on March 31, April 3 and 4.
