The departments of Psychology, Sociology and Sports of Government degree college Ganderbal jointly organised a cycle rally for the promotion of awareness on ‘Suicide Prevention’ on November 20, 2024. More than 30 cyclists took part in the awareness rally.
Leading from the front, Principal of the college Prof. Fouzia Fatima along with some faculty members also participated in the event. Prof. Fouzia Fatima encouraged the students and staff by riding the cycle throughout the rally.
The rally started from GDC Ganderbal to Woyil Bridge via Barsoo Bye pass. The cyclists stopped at various places enroute and made the people aware about seeking help and reducing the stigma around suicide.
They informed people about many suicide helplines available. Changing the mind-set, encouraging people to seek help, reaching out to someone, listening to others and changing attitude towards mental health was the purpose behind the rally.
Participating students were presented with certificates and refreshment was also provided. A formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Ulfat Jaan, head department of psychology.
She thanked the Principal of the college, staff and the participating students. She also appreciated the efforts of District Traffic Police and District Health services for their support in the successful conduct of the event.
