Baramulla, June 14: On the occasion of World Blood Donor Day, the Department of Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion at Government Medical College Baramulla (Blood Centre) organized a large-scale in-house voluntary blood donation camp that saw enthusiastic participation from medical staff, security forces, NGOs, and civil society members.
The event was inaugurated by Principal Prof. Dr. Majid Jahangir in the presence of Medical Superintendent Dr. Parvaiz Masoodi, Registrar Academics Dr. Shafqat Ahmad Lone, Head of the Blood Centre Dr. Saadat Nazir Shah, and Head of Department of Pathology Dr. Baba Iqbal. The dignitaries highlighted the importance of voluntary blood donation in strengthening emergency healthcare services and saving lives.
Setting a strong example for others, the Medical Superintendent Dr. Parvaiz Masoodi himself donated blood during the camp, joined by several faculty members and hospital staff. Their participation was widely appreciated as a gesture reinforcing the spirit of “practice what you preach.”
The camp witnessed active involvement from civil society organizations, the 53 Battalion CRPF, Baramulla Police, and employees of GMC Baramulla. Organizers reported an overwhelming response, with more than 100 units of blood collected during the drive.
This year’s theme, “One Drop of Humanity – Give Blood, Save Lives,” resonated throughout the event, emphasizing the critical need for safe and regular voluntary blood donation.
At the conclusion of the camp, all donors were felicitated by the administration in recognition of their contribution to public health and lifesaving care. The organizers thanked all participants and reiterated their commitment to continuing such initiatives in the future.
