
Srinagar, April 16: The Department of Community Medicine, Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar, under its ongoing Family Adoption Programme, in collaboration with Rotary Club of Kashmir ESRAG and Kashmir Concern, organised a Mega Plantation and Cleanliness Drive in Noorbagh today.
The initiative saw active participation of around 180 MBBS students of GMC Srinagar, along with volunteers, local Sarpanchs, Numberdars, and community members, reflecting strong public engagement in environmental and health-related initiatives.
The drive focused on improving local sanitation and enhancing green cover in the area. Participants carried out extensive cleanliness activities and planted saplings across designated spots, contributing to both environmental restoration and public hygiene awareness.
Speaking on the occasion, the Head of Department, Community Medicine, GMC Srinagar, said the programme aims to sensitise future doctors to the social and environmental determinants of health. He added that clean surroundings and greenery are essential components of preventive healthcare and community well-being.
Representatives from Rotary Club of Kashmir ESRAG and Kashmir Concern appreciated the enthusiasm of students and the cooperation of locals, reaffirming their commitment to supporting sustainable and community-driven initiatives.
Local representatives thanked the organisers, stating that the drive has helped improve the local environment while also raising awareness about cleanliness and tree plantation.
The programme concluded with a collective pledge to continue such efforts for a cleaner, greener, and healthier Kashmir.
