GMC Srinagar hosts advanced surgical workshop

The Post Graduate Department of Minimal Access and General Surgery at Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar on Saturday organised a high-level academic programme titled “An Evening Surgical Discourse: Beyond Closure – Science of Healing, Strength of Repair” at Hotel Golden Leaf, Hyderpora.

The event brought together leading surgeons, senior faculty members, postgraduate scholars and surgical trainees for focused discussions on two critical themes Chronic Wounds and Complex Hernias.
The discourse was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) Iffat Hassan Shah, Principal GMC Srinagar, who praised the department for its continuous strides in academic excellence and clinical innovation.
Organised under the chairmanship of Prof. (Dr.) Iqbal Saleem Mir, Head of the Department of Minimal Access and General Surgery, the programme was coordinated by Prof. (Dr.) Mushtaq Ahmad Mir (Organising Secretary) along with Dr. Tahir Saleem Khan and Dr. Hanief Mohammad Dar (Joint Organising Secretaries).
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Iqbal Saleem Mir underscored the significance of lifelong learning in modern surgical practice.“The true art of surgery lies beyond closure in understanding the science of healing and the strength of repair that restores our patients to wellness,”he said.
The scientific sessions featured expert lectures, case-based discussions and interactive exchanges led by distinguished surgeons who shared advanced insights into managing complex surgical conditions. Young surgeons and trainees were provided a valuable platform to engage with senior faculty and update themselves on evolving techniques and evidence-based practices.
A special Obituary Section was dedicated to honouring three former Professors of Surgery from GMC Srinagar Prof. Peerzada Abdul Rashid Fazili, Prof. M.S. Misger, and Prof. Syed Ashiq Hussain Naqshbandi whose contributions to teaching and patient care were remembered with deep respect.
The event was attended by eminent faculty from GMC Srinagar, SKIMS Soura, SKIMS Medical College Bemina, and various peripheral medical colleges of the Valley. Prominent attendees included Prof. Muneer Khan, Prof. Muhammad Shafi, Prof. Nazir Salroo, Prof. Nissar Ahmad Wani, Prof. Parvez Ahmad Shah, Prof. Mufti Mahmood Ahmad, and Prof. Naseer Ahmad Awan.
Reaffirming its commitment to advancing surgical education and innovation, the Department of Minimal Access and General Surgery said it will continue to uphold GMC Srinagar's long-standing legacy of excellence in medical science
