Baramulla, Aug 9: Nestled amid lush green mountains and serene landscapes, Goas, located around 17 km from Baramulla and 7 km from Jamsampora, has emerged as a promising yet largely unexplored tourist destination in north Kashmir.

A media team led by Khabar Urdu Chief Editor Asim Muhi-ud-Din recently visited the picturesque area along with social activist Malik Yaseen Hassan and Advocate Ishfaq Majeed to assess its tourism potential.
During the visit, the team witnessed the area’s striking natural beauty, with verdant mountain slopes, scenic surroundings and a tranquil environment offering an ideal setting for nature-based tourism.
Despite its considerable potential, Goas continues to lack basic infrastructure and visitor facilities, limiting its ability to attract tourists and generate economic opportunities for the local population.
The visiting team called for immediate attention from the district administration to develop the area in a planned and sustainable manner. They stressed that improved road connectivity, basic amenities, visitor facilities, sanitation and other essential infrastructure could help transform Goas into a recognised tourist destination.
Local residents also voiced hope that government intervention would unlock the area’s tourism potential. They said focused development could attract visitors from different parts of Kashmir while creating employment opportunities for local youth and supporting small businesses.
With its natural landscapes, peaceful surroundings and proximity to Baramulla, Goas could become an important addition to the region’s growing network of offbeat tourist destinations.
Residents and the visiting team maintained that development should preserve the area’s ecological character while providing the infrastructure needed to support responsible tourism.
For now, Goas remains a hidden treasure—but with timely government attention and community participation, the scenic destination could soon find a prominent place on Baramulla’s tourism map.
