Itanagar, Feb 5: Lt Gen Abhijit S Pendharkar, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Spear Corps, along with all ranks, extended warm greetings and best wishes to the Galo community and the people of Arunachal Pradesh on the occasion of the Donyi Mari Festival.

In his message, Lt Gen Pendharkar expressed hope that the festival, which celebrates the indigenous Donyi-Polo faith and the rich cultural heritage of Arunachal Pradesh, brings joy, peace, and happiness to families and communities across the state. He lauded the Galo community for preserving their traditions, rituals, and vibrant cultural practices that contribute to the unique social fabric of the region.
The Spear Corps, stationed in the northeastern sector, has consistently engaged with local communities through cultural, educational, and social initiatives. Festival greetings such as these underscore the Corps’ commitment to strengthening bonds with the people while promoting harmony, mutual respect, and community welfare.
Donyi Mari Festival, marked with prayers, traditional dances, music, and community feasts, is celebrated annually to honor the Sun (Donyi) and Moon (Mari) deities, reflecting the region’s deep-rooted spiritual and ecological ethos. The festival also serves as an occasion to reinforce social cohesion and celebrate the cultural identity of the Galo people.
