A growing menace of stray dogs has plunged the residents of Gousia Colony, Bemina, into a state of fear and frustration. Scores of dogs roam the area unchecked, attacking residents and making everyday activities increasingly perilous.
The inhabitants of the Colony told a local news agency that the canines have particularly targeted those attending Fajr prayers. Several incidents have been reported where worshippers were chased or bitten on their way to the mosque. “The streets are no longer safe during the early hours. Many of us are forced to stay home for fear of being attacked,” said Abdul Hameed, a local resident.
The situation is equally dire for children. Parents are reluctant to let their kids step outside for tuition classes or playtime. “My son is terrified. He refuses to leave the house without an adult accompanying him,” lamented a concerned mother.
The residents have appealed to the Srinagar Municipal Corporation to intervene and take immediate action to control the stray dog population. “We have made multiple complaints, but the issue remains unresolved. It’s high time the authorities prioritize our safety,” said another resident.
Residents urged the SMC to employ humane and effective measures, such as sterilization and relocation, to curb the growing threat.
