
Kulgam, May 9: Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo inaugurated new tourism-related facilities at Panchanpatri (Hompathri) in Kulgam district to boost visitor experience and promote local tourism.
The Minister inaugurated a passenger shed constructed by the Rural Development Department and also dedicated a new viewpoint at Panchanpatri aimed at enhancing tourism appeal by showcasing the area’s natural landscape.
Senior district officers, including the ACD Kulgam, Chief Education Officer, Chief Medical Officer, and a large number of local residents were present on the occasion.
Speaking at the event, the Minister said the government is focused on developing emerging and unexplored tourist destinations across Jammu and Kashmir by strengthening infrastructure and civic amenities. She said Panchanpatri and adjoining areas have strong tourism potential due to their scenic beauty and peaceful environment, which can help generate livelihood opportunities for local communities.
She added that the government, under Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, is working to make tourism a key driver of economic growth and employment in the Union Territory. Efforts are being made to improve road connectivity, public facilities, and tourism infrastructure in rural and remote areas.
During her visit, the Minister also interacted with locals, who raised demands regarding better infrastructure, improved connectivity, and upgraded tourism facilities. She assured them that genuine issues would be addressed on priority and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to balanced and inclusive development.
Later, she visited Khuribatpora and met families affected by a recent fire incident, expressing solidarity and assuring them of all possible assistance for rehabilitation.
