Govt focuses on boosting homestay sector: CS Dulloo

Jammu, Mar 30: Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo chaired a review meeting on Jammu and Kashmir’s Homestay Policy, emphasizing easier access to institutional credit and streamlined registration to promote homestays across all districts.

The meeting, attended by senior officials from J&K Bank, Tourism Department, JKTDC, and other stakeholders, focused on policy refinements, digitization of registration, and credit facilitation for aspiring entrepreneurs. Dulloo highlighted homestays as a key driver of sustainable tourism, local employment, and community-based initiatives, calling for integrated digital platforms and policy support.
J&K Bank has launched a dedicated loan scheme offering up to Rs 30 lakh per homestay unit at 8.2% interest, while the Tourism Department reported over 2,600 homestays with more than 19,300 rooms registered across the Union Territory. Initiatives include expanding the permissible number of rooms, stakeholder-friendly guidelines, secondary property B&B frameworks, and marketing support via digital platforms.
The Chief Secretary reaffirmed the government’s commitment to developing homestays as a cornerstone of tourism, cultural promotion, and job creation in Jammu and Kashmir.
