Many people remain unaware of these risks, often associating harm only with substances like alcohol or tobacco, while assuming that traditional snacks and sweets are relatively harmless. However, research increasingly shows that overconsumption of such foods can be just as damaging, and in some cases, even harder to counteract because these products are so readily available and deeply integrated into daily life
In a major push to diversify and revamp tourism infrastructure across lesser-known destinations, the government has constituted a high-level Steering Committee for the implementation of SPREAD — Sustainable Promotion and Revamping of Emerging Alternate Destinations to boost tourism and develop new travel destinations in the Union Territory.
The Chief Secretary of Jammu & Kashmir will chair the committee. The Administrative Secretaries from 12 key departments would be its members.
The Steering committee has been tasked to promote eco-sensitive and culturally rich alternate destinations across the Union Territory, particularly in underdeveloped regions.
It would provide strategic direction and ensure inter-departmental coordination for SPREAD.
The committee would facilitate high-level policy approvals, resource allocation, and problem-solving and oversee the smooth execution of the initiative.
The Tourism Department will serve as the secretariat for the committee.
