Govt makes police clearance mandatory for retired Govt officials seeking pvt jobs

December 18, 2025 | Mohammad Danish

The government has made it mandatory for retired government employees, who intend to take up post retirement jobs in Jammu and Kashmir, to get police clearance before taking jobs in the private sector.

The direction has been issued by J&K government to private offices, which engages retired government employees.
The task of security clearance has been entrusted with the Police's Criminal Investigation Department (CID), according to a recent notice from Jammu and Kashmir Information and Public Relations Department.
As per the official notice, any retired government employee being considered for gainful employment in a private organization must undergo verification of character and antecedents through the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The responsibility for obtaining this mandatory security clearance has been placed squarely on the head of the concerned private body or agency.
The notice emphasizes that private sector employers must strictly follow the prescribed procedure before engaging the services of any retired government official.
The directive aims to ensure that individuals who previously served in government positions, and may have had access to sensitive or strategic information, do not pose any security risk after retirement.
According to officials, the move is intended to establish a transparent and accountable mechanism for post-retirement employment while safeguarding public interest and internal security.
The administration believes that mandatory CID verification will help prevent any potential misuse of official knowledge or influence acquired during government service.
The notice warns that if any retired government employee is engaged by a private organization without following the required verification process, strict legal action will be initiated against the concerned private body or agency.
The instructions are applicable to all private sector establishments operating within Jammu and Kashmir.
Till now, the procedure for getting security clearance was mandatory for getting into the government sector.
