Srinagar, Jan 16: The Jammu and Kashmir government has extended the Central Government Health Scheme health benefits to its pensioners, with specific terms and conditions governing eligibility and coverage, officials said on Friday.
A top official said only those government employees of Jammu and Kashmir who retired on or after October 31, 2019, will be eligible to avail themselves of the CGHS medical facilities.
Pensioners who retired prior to the cut-off date will not be covered under the scheme.
The official said the move is aimed at bringing parity in healthcare access for eligible pensioners in line with central government retirees, while ensuring a clear demarcation of beneficiaries.
However, the extension of CGHS benefits comes with a key condition. Pensioners opting for CGHS will be required to surrender their Ayushman Bharat health card, as simultaneous benefits under both health schemes will not be allowed.
Authorities said eligible pensioners will have to formally exercise their option to switch to CGHS and complete the required procedural formalities, including submission of undertakings and surrender of the Ayushman Bharat card, to avail the benefits.
The CGHS provides comprehensive medical care through government and empanelled private hospitals, including outpatient treatment, specialist consultations and hospitalization facilities, which officials said would significantly enhance healthcare access for eligible pensioners.
The decision is expected to benefit a section of retired employees, though officials said clear guidelines will be issued to ensure smooth implementation and avoid duplication of benefits.
