Govt races to restore water supply after floods: Min Rana

Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment, and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana, chaired a high-level review meeting to assess and expedite the restoration of essential water supply services in flood-affected areas of Jammu. The meeting, attended by key officials, legislators, and district heads, focused on quick action to restore disrupted water services following the recent floods.

During the meeting, Rana was briefed on the progress of restoration efforts, challenges faced, and strategies to accelerate relief operations. He emphasized the urgency of restoring water supply infrastructure and directed the deployment of water tankers to the most affected areas, with private water tankers and fire tenders as backup.
The Minister also instructed the nomination of a dedicated nodal officer to streamline efforts and ensure timely completion of restoration tasks. Legislative representatives highlighted specific constituency challenges, urging swift action for impacted areas.
Rana reassured legislators and residents, stating that restoration work at key sites, such as the Water Supply Scheme in Shitlee, is progressing and will be completed within five days. Additionally, the Power Development Department (PDD) has been tasked with restoring feeder lines critical for water supply.
The government is also working on a long-term plan to fortify water infrastructure through collaboration between various departments, including Urban Environmental Engineering and Flood Control. This will help prevent future disruptions and ensure a more resilient water supply system.
