Gul’s supporters continue protest over his cabinet snub

October 29, 2026 | BK NEWS SERVICE

Srinagar, Oct 28 : Supporters of National Conference leader and MLA Mubarak Gul on Wednesday staged a protest at Press Colony in Srinagar, demanding his inclusion in cabinet berth.

Gul was not included in the cabinet and was sidelined during yesterday's cabinet reshuffle by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
Wearing white shrouds, Gul's supporters held placards and demanded that Gul be given a cabinet berth or he will resign from the party.
"Do justice to Eidgah, make Mubarak Gul a cabinet minister,” the protesters said.
One of the protesters said Gul had contested seven elections and won every time.
"The party, however, failed to honour its commitment to him. Farooq Abdullah had promised him a cabinet berth. His name was on the list but his name was removed at the last moment," the protester said.
Gul, a six-time MLA from Eidgah, was left out of the Cabinet during Omar Abdullah’s cabinet expansion yesterday.
Gul was subsequently appointed National Conference’s general secretary but the appointment did not immediately satisfy all his supporters, who continued to protest.
