6-days training programme on “Principles and Practices of Natural and Organic farming” was inaugurated today on 2-09-2024 at, Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura, SKUAST-Kashmir. The training programme was organized by Division of Agronomy and sponsored by HADP-16: Alternate system of Agriculture for sustainability (ASAS). The programme aims to transform the agricultural economy, promote sustainability and to boost farmer prosperity, creating opportunities for Training and Skill Internships. 25 Extension officials from various departments and KVK’s of district Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipora actively participated in inaugural programme. Dr. Raihana Habib Kanth, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, SKUAST-K, was the chief guest in the inaugural session of the training programme. In addition to participants, the inaugural session was attended by various HoD’s & faculty members of FoA. Dr. A.A. Saad Professor of Agronomy, formally welcomed the guests and participants. Dr. Lal Singh, course director of the capacity building training programme gave a brief account of the training programme and its importance in academic career and principles and practices of organic farming. He further added that Natural and organic farming emphasizes sustainable agricultural practices that prioritize soil health, biodiversity, and ecological balance.
Dr. Rihana Habib Kanth, Dean FoA and Chief guest of the event enlightened the participants on the significance of the natural and organic farming. She stressed upon the natural and organic farming, a holistic approach of farming system and emphasized upon the interconnectedness of the farm ecosystem, including soil, plants, animals and humans, aiming to maintain and enhance overall ecosystem health.
