
If we look back in the history of Islam the most influential caliph that played a pivotal role in spreading Islam is Hazrat Umar Ibn-Al-Khataab. He belonged to Banu Adi tribe of Quraish family in Makah and second caliph after Hazrat Abu Bakar (R.A). Initially, he was non-muslim and was among the bitter foes of Prophet Mohammad (SAW).In his epoch, he was the most literate person and familiar with the art and science of genetics. He was very valiant and was well known famous wrestler. Apart from this, he was admired for his horse-riding skills.
Well, Umar (R.A)had an amazing and astonishing intellectual but he had not accepted Islam and was in total opposition and antipathy in the spread of Islam and Prophet Mohammad (SAW). He had a plan to kill our last and beloved Prophet(PBUH). But when he came to know that his sister and brother in law had embraced Islam. He got furious and in a rash, he drubbed his sister and was bleeding enormously. After seeing his sister in the bath of blood he calms down of the guilt and asked her sister to show the pages where the Quran is written. He recited the Quran after taking a shower. It was the beginning of Surah TA Ha. Finally, he came to the verse:
“Indeed, I am Allah. There is no creator except me, so worship me and establish prayer for my remembrance”. Quran (20:14).
Hazrat Umar (R.A) then went out to meet the beloved Prophet (PBUH).On seeing Umar, Prophet (SAW) enquired what made him bring here. He replied, "I am here to embrace Islam. This was the turning point in his life.
When he came in the domain of Islam he was the first who suggested Prophet Mohammad (SAW), they should perform salah in the holy Kaaba where the messenger of Allah led the Muslim prayer. For this courageous and dynamic proposal, he was given the title of Al-Faroaq by the beloved Prophet (PBUH) which means who distinguish between the right and wrong.
Being the second caliph, under his administration, Islam became an international power. Within ten years of his glorious rule, the majority of nations came under the banner of Islam. In short, he is the founder of a great Islamic state. He was an embodiment of justice, principles, humility, perfection and character.
