The Meteorological Department has warned that the severe heatwave would persist across Jammu and Kashmir for the next three days.
Jammu and Kashmir at present is reeling under an intense heatwave conditions.
“J&K will continue to experience generally hot and dry conditions until June 13, with a brief respite expected between June 14 and 17, when isolated to scattered places may witness light rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds,” a MeT official said.
He said weather is expected to revert to hot and dry from June 18 to 20.
The MeT has advised residents to avoid outdoor activities between 12 noon to 4 pm.
Both Kashmir and Jammu regions have been facing scorching heat wave with both maximum and minimum temperatures recording significantly above normal across the Union Territory.
According to the latest data, the daytime temperatures have remained 4–7°C above normal in most parts of Kashmir and 4–6°C above normal in Jammu division.
The night temperatures have also remained 2–5°C above normal in most areas of both divisions.
The tourist resort of Pahalgam recorded the lowest minimum temperature in Kashmir at 10.6°C, and Banihal recorded the lowest in Jammu at 15.8°C.
People have been advised to consume plenty of fluids and avoid strenuous outdoor activities.
Farmers have been advised to continue regular agricultural operations.
