Heavy penalty imposed over power theft

February 12, 2024 | BK CORRESPONDENT

In a crackdown on power theft, the inspection squad of the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) in the S/D Huzuribagh area uncovered numerous instances of consumers illicitly obtaining electricity through hooking or bypassing meters. The operation, aimed at curbing illegal practices and ensuring fair distribution of electricity, resulted in heavy penalties for the offenders.

The inspection team, equipped with advanced detection equipment, conducted thorough inspections across the region, targeting areas suspected of power theft. During the course of their investigation, they discovered several unauthorized connections and tampered meters, indicative of systematic efforts to steal electricity.
Upon identification of the offenders, stringent penalties were imposed in accordance with the relevant regulations. Additionally, the names of those found guilty of power theft were shared on the official KPDCL “X” handle, signaling a zero-tolerance approach towards such unlawful activities.
The crackdown underscores KPDCL's commitment to maintaining the integrity of the power distribution system and ensuring equitable access to electricity for all consumers. By actively pursuing perpetrators of power theft and imposing deterrent measures, the corporation aims to foster a culture of compliance and accountability within the community.
Furthermore, KPDCL has urged consumers to report any instances of suspicious activity or irregularities in power supply, emphasizing the collective responsibility in safeguarding the integrity of the electrical infrastructure.
As the enforcement efforts continue, KPDCL remains steadfast in its mission to combat power theft and uphold the principles of transparency and fairness in the distribution of electricity across the region.
