Jammu, July 19: Heavy rainfall disrupted traffic movement at multiple locations along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, NH-44, after mudslides and shooting stones were reported between Jakhiani and Chenani on Sunday.

Officials said continuous rainfall triggered several mudslides and stone falls, affecting vehicular movement on the highway. The National Highways Authority of India immediately deployed men and machinery to clear the debris and restore smooth traffic movement.

Clearance and restoration work was underway on the affected stretches at the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, the road near Dewal, which had recently been restored after suffering damage during an earlier spell of bad weather, was again affected by the ongoing rainfall. Officials, however, said two-way traffic on the highway remained operational, with vehicles being allowed to pass as repair work continued.

Authorities have urged commuters to exercise caution while travelling through vulnerable stretches and follow traffic advisories issued by the administration, particularly in areas prone to landslides and shooting stones.

The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, the main surface link connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country, continues to remain under close monitoring amid intermittent rainfall in several parts of the region.
